Firefly’s 2026 Touring Production: Madagascar

In Spring 2025, Firefly Creative hit the road with our very first touring production: Schoolhouse Rock Live! Jr. Over 3,000 audience members experienced the magic as we brought theatre directly into schools, retirement communities, and beloved local institutions like the Memphis Zoo, the Children’s Museum of Memphis, and the Overton Park Shell’s Shell on Wheels.

Now, we’re gearing up for our sophomore tour, and this time, we’re heading from the Central Park Zoo to the wilds of Africa with Madagascar – A Musical Adventure Jr. Join Alex, Marty, Gloria, Melman, and the rest of the gang on a hilarious and heartwarming musical journey that’s sure to be a crack-a-lackin’ good time!

This touring production will feature talented homeschool students and is designed to make live theatre more accessible than ever. Performances are completely free to host venues, thanks to the generosity of donors and community supporters.

Tour Dates:
Fridays in February, March, and April 2026

Come Audition for Madagascar – ON TOUR!

Who Can Audition?
Homeschool students entering 6th grade through 12th grade (rising seniors welcome!).

What to Know:

Because of the unique nature of a touring production, we will be casting a very small ensemble of committed and adaptable performers. Space constraints at venues, travel logistics, and performance demands limit the size of the cast.

If you are not cast for this tour, we strongly encourage you to consider enrolling in one of our fall educational productions — The Music Man Jr. or Disney’s Dare to Dream Jr.

Rehearsal Schedule:

Rehearsals begin Tuesday, September 2, 2025, and will take place most Tuesdays from 2:30–4:00 PM.
Occasional Friday rehearsals will be added based on cast availability.

Performance Schedule:

The tour kicks off Friday, February 6, 2026, with performances every Friday (excluding February 20 and March 13) through April. Final dates will depend on venue interest and community demand. Each Friday will include two performances at different locations.

Commitment & Expectations:

Being part of the Firefly tour is an exciting opportunity—but it’s also a serious responsibility.

Cast members are expected to:

  • Perform two shows every Friday at different venues

  • Participate in loading in/out and supporting the team

  • Arrive at the first rehearsal fully memorized

  • Come prepared with all blocking, choreography, and music learned

  • Maintain a professional attitude throughout the entire process

This is a team effort. Every person matters. We are looking for students who are reliable, respectful, and ready to represent Firefly Creative with excellence.

A cast contract will be required upon acceptance.

AUDITION MATERIALS

Every auditionee should memorize this audition song and be ready to perform each of the four characters (Alex the lion, Marty the Zebra, Gloria the hippo, and Melman the giraffe), getting ready for their day at the Central Park Zoo.

LYRICS:

Alex: Time to go, got a real big show and it’s almost time. Gotta give the ‘ol hair a blow and my teeth a good shine.

Marty: Gonna give a good sheen to the ebony and ivory. Crowd’s gonna go wild when they see my best Gene – Gene Kelly I mean!

Gloria: Gonna do my toes, gonna do my nails, a little make-up never fails. A girl should always look her best – when she’s this blessed.

Melman: Trying to drag my body out of bed. I can’t do the show with this aching head. Maybe I should see the doc instead.
